President's Message

Dear Weavers,

Weaving Between the Lines

The Richmond Art Center’s exhibit is still going on, but not for long. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend that you do - and bring a friend. The exhibit hall is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 - 4:00.

Thanks to all guild members who loaned their weaving artwork or took part in the group art piece, Woven Together. Plus, the Demonstration Volunteers. Those who set up looms and demonstrated for the Show Opening and Artist’s Talk days added a special vibrancy to the events.

Please note that the pick-up day to retrieve artwork from the RAC is Saturday, June 6th, from 10:00 - 4:00 PM.

Check out some of the photos below from the Artist Talks event on April 25th.

Annual Auction and Picnic - June 15

The annual picnic and auction in Tilden Park is on the 3rd Monday in June, the 15th. Please save the date.

It’s time to go through your stash and see if you have something you can contribute. Fiber-related books, magazines, loom tools, and of course, fiber itself are all welcome. All money collected from the auction goes straight to our Programs fund for the upcoming year. If you can’t make the picnic, but have a donation, please let me know, and a pickup can be arranged.

May Guild Meeting

Our May guild meeting on Tuesday the 26th will be at the North Berkeley Library. From 10:00 - 12:30. Bernie and Karen will be sharing their weaving experience from their recent workshop with Cally Booker in Devon, UK. We also may hear news about the recent CNCH participants and their workshops at Asilomar.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Happy Weaving.  ~ Vicky

Color Clinic

Picking up on the Color Palettes activity in April, we'll look at questions members have using color. What colors do you like to weave together? Do you have a color that you don't know what to do with? We'll employ the wisdom of the crowd (Golden Gate Weavers) to discuss color design choices.

Please bring with you:

  • 2-3 colors of fiber from your stash

The Golden Gate Weavers Guild meets on the third Monday of the month, 10:00 am to Noon in the Gooseberry Room, at the North Berkeley Senior Center, 1901 Hearst Ave, or on Zoom. No meetings in July, August, and December.

Weaving Cloth for Clothing

In our March meeting, we started planning and designing our projects. People are moving along at different paces.

Project Plans shared:

  • Making a Quechquemitl, poncho, from cloth she has woven (Koko)

  • Exploring clothing options from IKAT cloth she wove one year at CNCH, or from a length of Heart pattern yardage (Susie)

  • Making a blouse with a cowl neckline from her finely woven cloth (Penny)

  • Replicating some Harris Tweed for a vest and/or make a peasant's blouse (Bernie)

  • Sewing a silk vest from fabric woven with a weft of torn silk komono fabric (Naoko)

You can join the Study Group at any time, and get help or to check out what we're doing. It's a great way to see how your fellow guild members develop ideas, plan, sample, and make cloth. Below are some photos from the group meeting.
