President's Message
Dear Weavers,
Spring Exploded this year with Color and new growth Everywhere. We are back in-person at the Berkeley Senior Center, Gooseberry Room
Sheila O'Hara
Monday, March 16th we have a presenter who will fit right in with the new growth we are seeing around us. Get ready to be inspired. Special Thanks to Susie Hodges for her contribution in bringing this wonderful weaver and presenter, Sheila O’Hara. Shela will be talking about her career and life. She has many slides and amazing stories to tell. Check out her website:
Sheila O’Hara is a one-time event you don’t want to miss.
Sheila is likely to bring some of her weavings to look at, touch and will be FOR SALE.
Birthdays of our Members
Susie Hodges had a significant birthday in March - 90 years young. Congratulations, Susie!
Susie has also been a member of our guild since the 1970s, 50 or so years - WOW! We are so grateful to have you in our guild.
As a way to acknowledge other members of our community, on an ongoing basis, Bernie and I will ask members to share their birth month and date.
CNCH 2026 - Auction Donation
Our donation has leaned into more of the Tea Party theme. Naoko made a lovely hat and a decorated hat box that she is donating to the cause. I think she is also including a pattern to make the hat. Bernie is getting some Tea, jam, a scone mix, and some clotted cream. The hat box is roomy. Can you think of any other things we can add? One idea is to include materials to weave napkins and a table runner. What do you think?
RAC NEWS - Weaving Exhibition
The Richmond Art Center Exhibit is coming up fast.
Dates for bringing your artwork to the RAC are March 20th and 21st, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
Any questions please speak to the leader on this project, Lonnie Lee.
Happy Weaving, Everyone.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday at the BSC. You’re in for a treat!
~ Vicky

Weaving Cloth for Clothing
We had a great turnout in February at the N. Berkeley Public Library for our 1st study group meeting on "Weaving Cloth for Clothing." Nine guild members attended, and we shared ideas and preliminary plans for what we are thinking about making.
Ideas included:
-
Weaving cloth from Samoyed-spun fiber for a Cocoon Jacket (Vicky)
-
Sheep to Shawl with hand-spun wool (Tatiana)
-
Reviewing the Origami jacket design (Koko)
-
Weaving two rectangles for a Quechquemitl poncho (Susie)
-
Making a tunic from a Handwoven magazine pattern (Sue)
-
Creating a garment with IKAT sampler fabric created at CNCH (Sandy)
-
Making a sleeveless vest from her finely woven cloth (Penny)
-
Replicate some Harris Tweed for a vest and/or make a peasant's blouse (Bernie)
-
TBD (Naoko)
You can join the Study Group at any time, and get help or to check out what we're doing. It's a great way to see how your fellow guild members develop ideas, plan, sample, and make cloth. Below are some photos from the group meeting.
