President's Message

Dear Weavers,

Many Thanks to all who were able to make the RAC Opening Reception on April 11th. Bernie sent me pics and a mini-movie showing Big Smiles on everyone, which really warmed my heart.

Golden Gate History Archive

If you have pictures you would like to share, please send them along to me. They will go into our guild history scrapbooks.

For now, enjoy these photos taken at the reception.

I'm planning to be at the Artist's Talk on Saturday, April 25th. I'm healing up just fine from my surgery, but get tired easily.

Happy Weaving!  ~ Vicky

Opening - Weaving Between the Lines Exhibition

The exhibit, curated by Lonnie Lee and Bob Darchi, officially opened on April 12 at the Richmond Arts Center.  The exhibition features weavings by members of our guild, Golden Gate Weavers, as well as baskets by Bay Area Basket Makers.

The exhibition is open Wednesday through Saturday through June 5.

Members are encouraged to sign up to speak at the Artist Talk on April 25. See Lonnie's email for details on how to participate.

Weaving Cloth for Clothing

In our March meeting, we started planning and designing our projects. People are moving along at different paces.

Project Plans shared:

  • Making a Quechquemitl, poncho, from cloth she has woven (Koko)

  • Exploring clothing options from IKAT cloth she wove one year at CNCH, or from a length of Heart pattern yardage (Susie)

  • Making a blouse with a cowl neckline her finely woven cloth (Penny)

  • Replicate some Harris Tweed for a vest and/or make a peasant's blouse (Bernie)

  • Sewing a silk vest from fabric woven with a weft of torn silk komono fabric (Naoko)

You can join the Study Group at any time, and get help or to check out what we're doing. It's a great way to see how your fellow guild members develop ideas, plan, sample, and make cloth. Below are some photos from the group meeting.
